Il nuovo mondo

Il Nuovo Mondo is the film adaptation of the book Narratori delle Pianure by Gianni Celati. We have selected four stories from the book and intertwined them to create a subject for a feature film. The central theme of the project is the journey, both physical and spiritual, of the protagonists in the desolate Pianura Padana. After acquiring the option of the book rights, together with the production company Lab Film, we won the 2024 development fund of the Emilia Romagna Film Commission. To date, we have written a subject, a twenty-page treatment, and the first draft of the screenplay.

Synopsis
It is the early 1990s, Castel Bolognese is a town where everything always seems mild, equal and serene. To scratch the surface, all it takes is a twist of fate that unites the different and distant lives of the protagonists, forever changing their course. The explosion of an apartment shakes the quiet of the Romagna suburbs, intertwining three stories. That of Monica, a solitary maid devoted to her lazy son, whose existence is overturned by the return of her husband Sonny, just released from prison. Franco, Bedo and Palì, on the other hand, are three eighteen-year-olds who, during a night at the disco, find themselves involved in a murder. Forced to flee, they get lost in the desolate Pianura Padana where they meet unlikely characters ready to help them. Finally, Roberto, one of the most famous Italian photographers, during a reportage comes across an old cemetery caretaker who predicts a terrible prophecy for him. There could be nothing further apart in their existences but the ones will bring tragedy into the others. Just on the day when everyone is convinced that happiness is within reach, that chance event will unite them in defeat.
